2005 ARRL January VHF Sweepstakes

01/25/2005 | K7MDL/R Traveled 4 grids, CN87, CN97, CN88, and CN98. The plan was to limit the road miles, stay closer to home, but extract every last QSO from each of the 4 grids. Also wanted to field test the new 10GHz setup. More details and pictures are at my website at http://mysite.verizon.net/michael_d_lewis/index.html.

I started in CN87, quickly moved CN97 at 900ft, then moved to Mt. Anderson at 3000ft. south of Bellingham, WA, to be able to work VE7DXG/R and VE7DAY/R roving down east Vancouver Island in British Columbia. I picked them up in Campbell River near the CO70/CN79 line, and worked them on most all bands to 1296 the rest of the way down the island. I worked a surprising amount of VE7 stations especially from CN79 that I have never heard on before on all bands to 1296. The weather was about 50 degrees F at 3000ft., and snow was no where in site, how fortunate.

I returned home in CN87 Sunday at 2am and then resumed at 10:30am Sunday with a quick CN97 stop, then a 600ft hill in north CN87, then finished the contest in CN98 on Green Mountain east of Everett, WA at 3000ft.

Worked DN17 to the east, CN84 to the south, CN79/CN89 to the north, and rovers in CN77 and CN78 to the west (KB7DQH rover bus, VE7DAY/R, VE7DXG/R).

The unverified contest summary is

50 91 x1 12 1092

144 137 x1 13 1781

222 51 X2 11 1122

432 87 x2 11 1914

903 19 x4 8 608

1296 37 x4 8 1184

10G 2 x8 1 16
