2005 ARRL January VHF Sweepstakes
the contest and activated 22 grid squares in New Mexico and
West Texas. Art Goddard, W6XD, celebrated his retirement from the ARRL Board of Directors by taking part in this adventure (it was the first time in 20 years that neither of us was attending the January ARRL board meeting, which is usually the same weekend as the
contest). We were joined by two other teams of experienced HF contesters (N6ZZ plus N2IC and N6MU plus K2MM). It was a memorable
weekend, although activity was not high and conditions were mediocre. A highlight was working the W5LCC crew 27 times from
seven grid squares (including five grid squares on 1296). We
also worked K5RHR 15 times (thanks for making Lubbock and
Albuquerque so workable, guys). -- N6NB
