2005 ARRL June VHF Contest

06/13/2005 | KQ6MU/R This year, I went KQ6MU Rover in DM26 & DM16. I was hoping to add DM25, but I was too exhausted to make a run to DM25. I started a bit late with a coaxial issue before leaving my house, so I did not get to the DM26 mountain site until 1:00 PM. The road was worse then last year and the truck did bottom out in two spots, but no damage was noticed.

The weather was just about perfect, with temperature in DM26 around 70 degrees all day! Setup went without conflict and I was up and running within 1 and 1/2 hrs of arrival. Equipment used: Kenwood TS-2000, Heil Proset-4 HC-4 headset, M2 6M5X 5elm 6m Yagi, and Cushcraft 13B2 13elm 2m Yagi (used on 432 MHz as well).

With the exception of AF6O being on the calling frequencies most of the time, I had a terrific time and wished I could have stayed longer. Luckily, I managed to catch that nice 6 meter opening late Saturday towards the north. This was the first time I had an actual pile up going on 6 meters! It was chaotic trying to write the info down on paper while the wind was whiping around, but it was still thrilling.

Thanks to all those who gave me a shout.
See you on the next contest. 73 Mike -- KQ6MU/R
