2005 ARRL June VHF Contest

06/13/2005 | N6VMO Operated the contest from the Satellite Amateur Radio Club site located on Vandenberg AFB, CA. Elevation is ~900'.

The station was QRV on 50Mhz, 144Mhz, 432Mhz, 902Mhz and 1296Mhz and operated for 24Hrs. The station was powered by portable generator.

Weather was fine, slightly windy at contest start. Blue skies and fair temps prevailed. Sunday morning found the hilltop shrouded in thick, 'drippy' fog.

Enjoyed a nice 50Mhz band opening just after contest start. The band stayed open to the midwest, east coast and pacific northwest for a couple of hours.

This year, the station aquired 902Mhz capability. This consisted of DEMI 902-28 transverter, 225W PA and 10' dish. This afforded five 902Mhz QSOs with W9EC-Lompoc, N6TEB/R-Kettleman City, WB6AAG-San Luis Obispo, W6PQL-Fremont and W6QIW-Santa Barbara.

Planning has now started for the September VHF Contest. Hope everyone had as good of a time as I did.

John
