2005 ARRL Field Day

06/27/2005 | KK7SM This year, we went back to the roadside park we found last year for Field Day. Located in the Texas Hill Country north of San Marcos, near Canyon Lake, many people stop by this park to take in the scenic view, and some were curious enough to ask what we were doing. The high point was the Boy Scout troop that stopped on the way to a campground during the final hour of operation; this more than offset the many antenna woes that we encountered with the screwdriver antenna on the truck. We were forced to move to hamstick antennas tuned by a MFJ tuner, which made band-switching a more involved process, but it was good training even so! We had a great time and even managed to make some 2m and 6m contacts this year, as well as PSK31 for the first time in Field Day. We are already looking forward to next year's event! -- NZ5G
