06/27/2005 | W3FOC Thanks to a generous invitation from Allan Hubbert, KH6ILR, we operated Field Day 2005 from a beautiful hilltop area on the large campus of the Armed Forces Retirement Home in Washington, DC. We had a commanding view of Washington, DC below us and the nearly constant breeze kept the 90-degree heat at bay. Our antennas included an A4 tribander atop a 45 foot "rocket launcher" tower and a 100 foot dipole fed with open wire and a Johnson Matchbox. Operators included Mike, W3MC; John, N3AM; Jim, N3JT and Allan, KH6ILR. Next year we hope to have our laptops networked and equip all radios with 100-watt rated bandpass filters. -- N3AM
