W0MAC
The Spring Amateur Radio Club (in association with the Northwest Harris County ARES had its 2005 Field Day at the Spring Creek Park in Tomball, Texas. Some wonder if FD should be held in January (WE hear that antennas work better if put up in the snow and cold weather). Temperatures ran in the mid 90's all day and humidity high enough you could ring out a towel. We had 18 people turn out to our event this year. There were demonstrations of APRS, Amateur TV and High Speed Multi Mode (2.4GHZ) Communications. We used the club call sign of W0MAC and we operated 3A (determined by how many portable stations were brought to the site by ARES members as a test of their ability to go to the field).
We had a great time with plenty of opportunity to operate by new and experienced operators. Next year is already something we're planning with plenty of interest in approaching Field Day the same way. -- KD2KW, Spring, Texas. -- KD2KW
