2006 ARRL Field Day

07/25/2006 | W9N The Kendallville Contesters / 21 Repeater Group set up there Field Day Site this year in the City Park of Kendallville, Indiana. This year was a trying time, due to the new antenna tower that was erected. After all the hard work of setting up the tower we realized that we forgot to hook up the Rotor Cable. The Club disassembled the tower to connect the cable to the rotor. After the tower was erected for the second time it was late in the day on Friday so everyone sat around the campfire and relaxed for the big day. Saturday morning up early to copy W1AW Bulletin when we realized the tri-beam would not turn due to restriction from the coax cables. You would think as many times we have done this we would have enough slack for the antenna to rotate. While tying up the Rotor Cable we snatched the coax preventing the antenna to rotate again. Travels across town to the local Factory we comadated a 45-foot boom lift. With caution light flashing and hoping the local police would not catch us we drove the boom lift to the city park. Cut the wire-ty that was fixed the coax and we were on the air. Still had an excellent Field Day and the Rain held off for the second time in history! -- K8IAT
