What a surprise! I got a glimpse at using equipment for the 21st century for this contest. With Garys (KB8RQ) prodding to get back on EME (after being off for 20 years) and an opportunity to try out my new SDR-1000 transceiver setup with my DEMI 144/28 transverter, triode amp, and single 2M8WLHD yagi on the horizon, I got on for the last weekend of the contest. Three surprises, first the SDR-1000 user group saw, and heard, the two contacts made using Voice Over the Internet (sound from the speakers) and VNC for a visual look at the console live! Second, didnt hear KB8RQ right away but saw a signal on the panadapter function of the SDR, tuned to it and heard IK3MAC calling CQ, completed in a few short minutes, found Gary for contact #2 within the next few minutes, all on moon rise. Third, using newly released SDR-1000 DSP application code a month later on the recorded signals from those nights, I was able to hear signals in the noise that I never heard when the recording was first made! (The bandwith recorded allows one to tune around and try different filter settings and noise blanker settings later in the future absolutely amazing!) The radio is ready for Prime Time. -- W0VB
