Just for FUN I built a snow cave with all the snow we had from the DEC'06 blizzard and operated SKN from my cave with a Yaesu FT817, Elecraft T1 tuner, and J-37 straight key. Antenna was a 88' CFZ @40'. Also used Steve/KD1JD's litte ATS3a SMD QRP rig I built for back packing the Colorado Trail. The cooler temps in the cave (averaging 25F) kept my fist from being it's best! My most thrilling QSO was with Steve/VE7SL from Mayne Island, BC with his SMK1 250mW rig! Sure added some spice to the QSOs when I mentioned I was portable "snow-cave". My wife accuses me of just being a kid at heart who wants to go play in his 'fort' he built.
See you all next year!
