2007 ARRL Field Day

We had a great time at field day. Our club was 2A in W. TN. (Jackson). While our contacts were between 300-400, we used field day for public appearance and to have a good time. It was in a park.
Just before eating on Saturday, a non-ham friend from Fletcher, NC called. She and her husband were walking in a park. They came upon a clearing with antennae sticking everywhere. The smell of cooking hamburgers filled the air. They asked what in the world was this. The Fletcher group responded Ham Radio Field Day and explained what it was about. She knew I was a ham, so she called me. As she explained what she just saw, I told her I was at a park, with antennae stick up, burgers grilling, and about to eat.
She died laughing as I explained what it was all about. She and her husband thought it was very cool to have this national preparedness activity going on.
I did not log the cell phone dx contact. :)
