2007 ARRL Field Day

07/02/2007 | W9FK The highlight of the West Allis Radio Amateur Clubs (WARAC) 2007 Field Day was a 50-foot high horizontal loop antenna supported by three bucket trucks. The 75m full-wave loop performed very well on 75m, 40m as well as on 20m, where it often matched or exceeded the performance of our TA-33 Jr tribander. Many thanks to PieperLine Line Construction for making the bucket trucks available to us.

This years event was held once again at Crystal Ridge Ski Hill another big thank-you to them for providing our FD site for the last 15 years. The weather was great with moderate temperatures and no rain, although storms associated with a front to the south of us bestowed some QRN upon us.

Prez Howard, WA9AXQ, and XYL Vicki once again provided us with plenty of food, with help from Jim, W9GLH, who supplied another fantastic batch of his famous Field Day Chili. The food repertoire was expanded this year to include subs for lunch on Saturday, to assure that no one got hungry after the contest started.

Mike, N9ESC, brought the assembly instructions for the food tent this year, sparing us the challenge faced last year figuring out how to put it up with no instructions. The tent went up more quickly this year, but it was nowhere near as much fun.

And fun it was! Were all bitten by the bug! Now we have to wait until next year. -- K9BTQ
