2007 ARRL Field Day

07/03/2007 | VO1MRC The Marconi Radio Club of Newfoundland (VO1MRC 2A NL) had an excellent and very enjoyable Field Day 2007 in Pippy Park in St John's. To get the dipoles up in the trees, we tossed the same artificial knee we used in for another great FD in 1997 at VO1HD's cabin. Although things got off to a rough start, we got it all togther eventually and got in some fine operating during the torrential rain on Saturday night. Conditions were quite good considering the sunspot trough. In keeping with the LF theme of FD 1987 (held at the Shoe Cove Decca Site) we ran the VO1MRC beacon on 137.5 kHz and had the pleasure of demonstrating LF reception to RAC Western Director Ed Frazer VE7EF who visited our site and enjoyed some fine chatting about all the fun and interesting things going on in Amateur Radio in VO land. This was the 30th anniversary of the first Field Day for you'rs truly, who apparently has put on a bit of weight since 1977!

Many thanks to all who participated and our trusty and determined operators and skilled technologists Roger VO1HD and Roy VO1XP. We are looking forward to next year already.

Joe VO1NA NL Section Manager -- VO1NA
