2007 ARRL Field Day

07/18/2007 | K8PAO The Canadian Lakes ARC participated in Field Day this year for the second time, operating from one of the communitys club houses. Canadian Lakes is a recreational community, owned and administered by a property owners corporation, of more than 2000 homes and 4000 home sites in north central Michigan covering more than 10 square miles with 36 holes of golf and more than 700 acres of lakes and ponds.

This year the Field Day site was the communitys Castle Clubhouse, a two story building topped with a penthouse on the highest point in Canadian Lakes. The 10,000 sq. ft main floor is used for many community events including dinners, plays, concerts and meetings. Tri-band and 2M beams were raised on the Castles mezzanine with inverted vees off the tower for 75/40M. In comparison to the Castle the antennas appear very small and hardly show in some of the photos.

Eleven members and guests manned two stations using the call of K8PAO on 75-10M and 2M side band with 100 W max. Due to poorer conditions this year, especially on 15M, our QSO count was down about 5%. -- K8PAO
