07/27/2007 | WA4DOU Having grown tired of extensive and exhaustive Field Day setups and teardowns that leave one with less than complete enthusiasm for long operating hours, I decided to pursue something akin to minimalism and have operated the last couple of years in 1B-Battery,QRP - 5w. This year I used a trap vertical on a portable ground mount with 19 radials, 80-10 meters, deep cycle marine battery and solar charging. Operated just under 13 hours and made 263 contacts. 20-15 & 10 weren't up to par but 40 & 80 took up some of the slack. Best dx was KH6J on 20 meters. I wish FD came more often, let's think about semi-annually or possibly quarterly. Thanks to all for the qso's and looking forward to next time. -- WA4DOU
