2007 ARRL 10 GHz and Up Contest

09/24/2007 | N6TEB The 10GHz and up contest just keeps getting better every year. During the second weekend we headed out with 4 hams and 5 rigs in my Ford Excursion. We started out at a wonderful site on the hills separating Los Angles from the Palmdale Lancaster area. Great shots both north and south. We easily worked the guys down in Mexico from here as well as those up in the San Joaquin valley. This was the first time out for my 24 GHz rig were I made 5 contacts averaging about 50 or 60 km each. My dollar to qso ratio is quickly dropping!

A few years ago I introduced my friend Kent K6WCI to 10 GHz. He now tries to make it out every day both weekends if his life permits. This year I talked Bill KE6RPY into coming along with a loaner rig and I am happy to report he is now hooked on the microwave bands. Paul N6DN who I rove with during the VHF contests came along to complete the foursome. We are already making plans for how to make it better next year.

A special thanks to Dave Glawson WA6CGR, who helped pound my rig back into working condition after too many miles of dirt roads and a botch attempt to fix it myself. I always thought output caps were optional;), thanks Dave.
Also a big thank you for the guys who travel down south of the border braving the elements and staying up till the wee hours for those final Q's. Frank, Miguel, Dan, Bernardo and Antonio you guys make it fun and always go the extra mile so everyone has a chance of working you. Thanks,
73, N6TEB -- N6TEB
