2007 ARRL September VHF Contest

09/17/2007 | K6XN Once again the Rovers made this contest exciting and fun!!! Propagation on 6M from my Sierra wilderness location in Nevada County, California, at 5000 feet was pitiful to non existent but the many Rovers and their enthusiasm and efforts on the other bands from multiple grid squares made this contest exciting and competitive for me. The activity level far exceeded what I expected for any September VHF contest without those good 6M or 2M openings we usually experience earlier in the year. I also appreciate very much the help of those wonderful guys who worked with me to make 1296 MHz contacts with my pitiful little 10 watts and my M2 22 element Yagi pointed through the pine trees. Once again using CW made a difference for those hard to reach grid squares (thank you K8MP for encouraging me to use CW) and for establishing 1296 MHz contacts. The 48 volt battery array and the solar panel arrays worked great as did the back up Honda EU2000i generator. All in all I had a great time. Thanks to all for making this another fun contest! 73, Ted, K6XN CM99 -- K6XN
