2007 ARRL November Sweepstakes (Phone)
The way the 2007 SSB started, did not look very promising, band condx's in the Northeast were terrible,20m closed real early,40m was a mess, and also 75m.
Worked Joel,WA1ZYX,who lives a couple of towns up from me,on 75m early on,and he agreed, Bands were terrible, and he's been contesting for a good length of time.
Thought seriously about shutting down and going to bed, but stuck it out, managed a few Q's,then around 0700 Sunday morning,75m finally came alive, and managed the bulk of my qso's in the next couple of hours.
Figured I mind as well just stay up,kept running right until the sun was up,then headed up to try out 20m with the Homebrew Hex-beam,but the band was so crowded, this little 100w station just had to S & P,and that was a feat in itself, as splatter was tremendous! Glad fully 15 opened up a bit,and was able to work a bunch of west coast station's with little difficulty.Ended up switching between 75 & 160 the last couple of hours, trying to hit my goal, and trying to keep my Voice, which was rapidly going hoarse!
A big thank you to Jim,K5RX, who pulled out my puny 160m sig with a couple of minutes to go to give me 500 Q's!! Reached my goal !
No sweep though, last year missed just SC,worked them twice this year, but no WV and NT (I have to agree with others, did anyone in the NE work NT ? )Next year I will try harder for the sweep than Q's,and after this weekend, I think next year can only get better!
73 all from NH,
Neil -- AE1P
