01/06/2008 | KO6YG Thanks again for such an enjoyable contest! Being slow at CW, it is so nice to be able to ragchew for as long as possible to gain proficiency at CW receiving and copying. Also, it was so nice for the other operators to QRS when I asked them if they would be so kind as to do that.


At first it was a very frustrating contest, as I could not get my VSWR down below 3.2:1 with a manual ant tuner. I have a Kenwood TS-520S XCVR as a rig, which has tubes, and is not recommended to Xmt with a VSWR above 2:1 What I was able to do was swap out my long coax. Then I was able to bring down my VSWR to betw 1.7:1 to 1.8:1 Then, fairly late on Jan 1, in fact the last 4 hours of the Contest I was able to make 4 nice SKN CW QSOs!
