JOTA 2007

10/25/2007 | N4IV The Rockingham County Amateur Radio Club operated a JOTA station this year at the Old North State, Cherokee District Fall Camporee held in Stoneville, N.C. The Club callsign "N4IV" was used. About 150 scouts and scouters attended the Camporee this year with about 50 of the scouts stopping by the JOTA station to observe and talk with other scouts and Ham operators around the country and in Europe. Some of the stations worked were W0LAV, W3J, KQ4BH, PA0AGA, DF0RW, K0KKU, KE4AMC and KD2E. Many of the scouts were amazed how easy it was to talk with others around the country with a small Ham radio and a wire antenna. Equipment used was a IC-718, IC-207H, MFJ-949E, 40 meter wire di-pole, Buddi-pole antenna, a 2 meter mobile antenna and 3 12 volt Gel-cell batteries. We look forward to doing it again next year if the Camporee dates are the same as the JOTA dates. -- WN4LTY
