JOTA happened to fall the same weekend as our Isotrauma district cuboree at Camp Avondale, E. Feliciana Parish, LA. I volunteered and set-up a portable station for all the various cub scout packs (packs 85, 112, 221, 310 and a few others), a CW sending area for the boys to send there name in morse code, and a literature area for finding out how to become a ham. The station consisted of a Yaesu FT-857D to a 40-10 mtr trap dipole at 40', and a 2/440 5 el yagi at 22'.
In all, the station was operating from 9 AM to about 5 PM on Saturday, and made 22 contacts. This included (2) cw qsos, with all but 3 contacts being made on 40 mtrs. Approximately 250 our of the 400 boys at the cuboree came by the display, and around 150 or so were able to get on the air. It was a busy day. Other JOTA stations were contacted in AL, AR, IN, LA, MS, NY, and TX. -- KC5R
