2010 ARRL Field Day

07/03/2010 | K4PJ Youngest 6m FD Op in Oak Ridge ARC History? Is Hope the youngest 6m Field Day (FD) operator in Oak Ridge (Tennessee) Amateur Radio Club history? Hope Hargis (2-3/4 years old) is assisting K4LF, Charlie (a.k.a. grandpa), to make contact with one of eight VE3/VA3 stations on the 6m band on Saturday afternoon, between 20:46 and 21:48Z. These stations were in the Canadian province of Ontario tightly packed around the city of Toronto. They were in the five grid squares of FN03, FN04, FN05, EN93, and EN96. The first three stations were worked in a period of three minutes for a QSO rate of 60 per hour; not too shabby for the young, rookie operator. The run of Ontario stations was the most 6m excitement we had at this location (EM76). We didn’t get in on the Caribbean opening that occurred for some FD stations nearby us in East Tennessee. However, we did hear FS/W6JKV, but did not work him. We had a nice run of five-land and zero-land stations that lasted for two hours late Saturday evening (local time) starting at 00:55Z producing 17 contacts. 73, Charlie, K4LF (6m Op for K4PJ) -- K4LF
