2010 ARRL Field Day

07/08/2010 | NE7WY

Northeast Wyoming Amateur Radio Association (NEWARA) held Field Day activities at the Bliss Dinosaur Ranch (Frank, K7WIZ).  There were four RV's scattered around the operating area.  Frank provided a lodge/bunkhouse where we could eat, sleep relax and operate our rigs.  The building was 100% solar powered.

The ranch is located about 70 miles north of Gillette, WY.  Several of the operators did some commuting.  David King, WY7DK, was on call as the Campbell County Emergency Manager and had to leave because of the severe weather.  Friday evening we had a severe thunderstorm with rain, wind hail and lightning.  The hail soundesd as if it were coming through the motorhome roof.  Thankfully there was no damage.  We had to shut down our Field Day operations for about three hours on Saturday evening because of the threat of lightning.

This year our Field Day consentrated on socializing rather than contesting. A good time was had by all who could make it.
