2010 ARRL Field Day
This year K1NR and K1UR operated as the Green Bean Mobile Contest Club -- NA1GB -- mobile, class 1C, from my 1963 Land Rover Series IIA 109 Station Wagon (aka the "Green Bean"). This is our sixth year operating from the Land Rover and in the previous years we had operated from 5 out of 6 New England states so this year we headed to Connecticut to make it 6 out of 6.
Being mobile, scenic locations are easy and we've picked some real winners in past years. This year we found another one, Stonington, Connecticut, right on the point next to the historic lighthouse. Surrounded by water on three sides, what could be better?
Since we only operate on Saturday, our goal is more to prove our communications abilities than to run up a huge score. This year we decided to concentrate on CW ops and ended up with our best score ever. More impressive was band conditions, as we managed to make both phone and CW contacts on every band from 160m to 6m. Not bad with a mobile whip.
