2010 ARRL Field Day

07/20/2010 | W3AO

W3AO (KE3Q GOTA):  The Potomac Valley Radio Club and Columbia Amateur Radio Association participated in FD for our the 13th consecutive year, once again at the Triadelphia Ridge Elementary School in Glenelg Maryland.  Our entry class this year was 24A, with 13 AB577 Rocket Launcher Towers holding a myriad of beams and wire antennas.  Our setup was very similar to past years; if you are interested in details see our soapbox comments from previous years.  One highlight of our year was the participation of 26 GOTA operators, many new hams from the 30 students recently completing the National Electronics Museum ARC Technician course.  Our claimed score was 33,452 points, just short of our record 33,664 om 2008.  QSO total was 3489 cw, 627 digital, and 6469 SSB for a total of 10,585 contacts.  We were very fortunate to have sunny, if hot and humid, weather for the weekend.  And, the gods of propagation blessed us with good openings on 15 and 10 meters, with nearly 1000 contacts on 15 phone, and nearly 700 on 10 phone, with correspondingly high CW and digital scores on the high bands.  Even 6 meters came through with some good sporadic E openings.  Another high point was our Satellite team which made 60 contacts!
