2011 ARRL Straight Key Night
I worked 14 station this year in SKN 2011 all on 40m. As usual it was great fun, great rigs, keys and FISTS! I used my Nye Straight Key with the Navy Knob along with my Johnson Viking Adventurer (same as my novice rig 48 years ago) crystal controlled all on 7025.3KHZ with 30W output into a verticall polarized 40M delta loop antenna. Receiving on my IC-7600 and a manual A/B antenna switch was used for T/R change-over.
The following stations were worked: K9SB, KE7GYQ, K7FME, K9JEF, W6HYK, W5UX, K4MQR, WB9LAL, WA0CTZ, K6BZZ, WA6BXV, KG6TH, K0LMD and KJ7Z.
Best FIST nomination goes to WB4LAL - Ike in Memphis, TN. He sent very clean, clear code at around 20wpm on his J38.
Most Interesting QSO nomination goes to W4UX - Bob in Georgia who demonstrated the sending with his coodie key and it was very much like the swing and rythum of old 1920 and 1930 marine stations recordings I have heard with a very nice swing to it - distintive! I was a Sparks aboard merchant ships for over 30 years and this showed me that perhaps I too could learn to send with a coodie key in the near future so watch out for the coodies next year!
Another great SKN event - I look forward to it every year!
