2011 ARRL Straight Key Night
Enjoyed participating in SKN this year, even though I was only on for 5 hours or so. Friday night I played bagpipes at our local brewpub in below freezing temperatures, so I got a late start. I should have spent the time with SKN, and stayed warm, but duty calls. I used my J-38 from my first year in ham radio, 1956. Boy, was my fist rusty! The Bencher and keyer sure do spoil you. I made 8 contacts, all but one on 20 meters, and the rusty fist either became much smoother or I fooled myself into thinking that. Conditions weren't too great out here in the Columbia River gorge, and QSB became a real problem with the last 3 or 4 contacts. All in all, it was a fun time, and I still think CW is the most fun part of ham radio.
