2011 ARRL Straight Key Night
Wonderful event again this year. Worked 14 stations using Drake B-Twins and a 2006 Morse Express Christmas Key. I truly believe the best fist I worked was Rich Kreiser, N0JBF, who, though he began studying Morse Code but a year ago and can receive at higher speeds, chose to send absolutely perfect code at his comfort level of 12 wpm. Many veteran CW men (myself included) thought they were doing a good job at 20 wpm, but had no concept of element length, character and word spacing, or rhythm due to long-time use of automatic keyers. Many more skills come into play with straight keys and bugs. Worked three operators named "Lee" in a row (WA0UIG, K9CM, K5LY). Worked a Chinese HB1A (WN9U) . N5RR reported tornado damage from Branson, Missouri. K9TJL reported the recent passing of a mutual traffic handling buddy (K9CNP) in Illinois. And my traditional snaring of K6KPH rounded out a thoroughly enjoyable SKN (even with Denise Stoops going AWOL). 73 and HNY to all . . . Kent Trimble, K9ZTV
