2011 ARRL June VHF Contest

06/13/2011 | wa1rks

We've moved up the road since last contest, and antennas not  up yet, so we threw together a "Quickie" set of antennas to work locally, and hopefully to dole out a few points for the contest. Much to my suprise we fare rathr well!. especially on 432 mhz!. 6m left a lot to be desired, I only had the ringo to put up,so polarity hurt me there a little, and the "man made noise" on that one. But 2m,220,432,excelled for what I had t work with. Murphy also came round I had the rotor working fine, right up to the start of the contest, then it died and quick troubleshooting left me high and dry. so we just  went with what we had, a rotorless set of antennas. but we still had a lot of fun,and just goes to show you don't need a lot to have fun. we did 50 contacts, and 24 grids, 6 different grids on 432,including FN01 which from my grid of FN32jp is a huge shot, with antenna 6 feet off the ground and pointing away from that one!  So hopefully by Sept we'll have all the aluminum up on the tower and do better especailly on 6m when we'll have the "Beast" (9el on 36ft boom) up and running. should do better with that up in the air. 73 gud dx see you in Sept!
