2011 ARRL June VHF Contest
The 2011 running of the June VHF was a good ride for the QO Rover. We again elected to go Limited. With the likelihood of good 6M conditions, contacts above 432 would be minimal at best. This was a good call as I can count on one hand the number of stations who asked for Qs above 432.
The only new equipment for this run was a Par Moxon on 6M. After 6 years of running the Par Omni, this seemed like time to upgrade.
Accommodations on Saturday night were 5-star at the a super secret contest location in FN23.
Lastly, this is the 2nd year with scores lower by 20%. The severe loss of big multi-ops and well equipped single-ops in WNY is sure being felt. Kudos to K2LIM for running a really nice multi from FN12. These guys are a beacon and workable from from anywhere in NY. We almost had a 4 band sweep from 6 grids with them, but our enjoyment of the hospitality of our overnight guest left of crunched for time on Sunday.
Time to get ready for CQWW VHF, August UHF and September VHF.
