2011 ARRL Field Day
The North Shore Radio Club had a truly fabulous Field Day this year. Everything came together beautifully. The weather was perfect and the propagation gods were definitely smiling upon us. Not only were 15 and 10 meters wide open for a change, but 6 meters even stayed open late into the evening. We operated as 3A with two CW stations and one SSB station. We also had a VHF station and a GOTA station (K9RST). Our site was a park in Lake Forest, IL, one of Chicago's northern suburbs. The park is full of tall old oak trees that were ideal for hanging our dipoles and provided shaded places for the operators' tents. We had many visitors this year, including lots of young people of grade school and high school age. In fact, we even had a pileup at the GOTA station, not over the air, but a line of people waiting to try it out. A first for us to be sure. While I don't know the outcome of our contact totals, I do suspect that we significantly exceeded last year's score.
