2011 ARRL Field Day

06/27/2011 | NA7UT

Sitting on top of the world at 7900 feet in Zion National Park is an adventure in itself. Operating a QRP station on solar/battery power makes it special.

K7DLX and N7ARE set up in the Lava Point campground. Using a Carolina Windom for 6 - 40 meters and a hamstick for 80, we operated late into the night, and then back at it early in the morning. 130 QSOs later, we packed up and headed for lower ground and home.

Only one 10 meter contact. 15-40 seemed to be the bands of choice, while 80 was rather dead. We appreciated the patience of the operators, especially the east coast operators, that took the time to pull out our 5 watts signal.
