Here’s my station location for Field Day 2011. Nice view, huh? Last year I put a new deck on my house and, as you can see, it makes for a great outdoor shack. The weather was fantastic this year—sunny with low humidity—making the event even more enjoyable.

I got involved at the last minute, stringing up a G5RV antenna in the back yard just one hour before the contest started. Even though I was technically operating a home station, my impromptu entry got my station on the air for the first time in two years. I did pretty well, considering that I only operated for seven and a half hours: 83 contacts, more than in previous years. I think the G5RV had a lot to do with it. Hmmm--I think my temporary antenna is going to make a pretty good permanent one.
