2011 ARRL Field Day

07/05/2011 | K4EX

As usual, we had lots of rain for Field Day.  But this year we decided to opt for creature comforts at Saint Leo University including no bugs and air conditioning.  We operated 2 full time stations with one on phone and the other CW.  Our crack CW operator was Merrill Brown, WK2G.  The antenna used for CW was a Joe Dube (K4TR) version of the G5RV mounted on the roof at 75 feet above ground.  This arrangement netted us 458 CW contacts.  The phone station antenna was a RadioWorks 80 Special OCF dipole.  The over-all length of the antenna was 66 feet and was configured as a VEE.  The operation of the phone station was causal to say the least, but we still managed to work 196 contacts including W1AW!
