2011 ARRL Field Day
The Raytown ARC of syburban Kansas City did theur normal 2A operstionfrom the field behind Raytown City Hall. Since the police department is locayed here and we are associated with them, our theme is "as much fun as the law allows". It certainly was.
We managed to raise towers for a CW station, a SSB station, the GOTA station, the uhf/vhf, and even a satellite station. The satellite station and uhf/vhf were powered by batteries being charged by solar panels, while everything else was powered by generators. With nice radios at each operating trailor we tried to be contest style operators and maximize the QSO count. The GOTA was more laid back with lots of rookies and new HF ops getting a chance. There was a place for everyone to join in the fun.
We got good media exposure with articles in two local papers and the channel 4 TV reporter making an appearance.
We tried to cover all the bonus points available. This created activity for everyone to get involved in. It also maximized the score.. You didn't have to be a contest operator to get involved and have fun.
Having all this fun resulted in the best Field Day outing, and score, we have ever achieved. We wound up with over 4,000 total Q's and close to 14,000 points. What fun!
We want to thank everyone for the contacts, and the ARRL for sponsoring an event that allows us to have "as much fun as the law allows"..
