2011 ARRL Field Day

07/07/2011 | ww2fd

Field Day 2011 was a true learning experience [AKA Murphy]. We were able to install all our wire antennas much higher and better anchoring. This was accomplished due to the fact there were more hands available for set up.

The networking of all the PCs was handed over to KC2YYZ and N2WRO which freed up the rest of us to get the RF gear and antennas checked. At 1400 on Saturday Mr. Murphy appeared and threw his hands into the digital PC and the Network. The network was an easy fix; RF got into the power cable. The digital was a problem caused by WinDOZ. I was able to get the packet station up after 3 hours and was able to pass all the Traffic.

The food was great KC2LEB did his thing with the ribs and N2NSA tackled the steaks. I was the official corn husker. During the food prep time K2BQ and KC2LSB kept two of the radios going, then it was game on for the food.

After we ate it was time to get down to business. K2BQ and N2NSA worked NVIS. KC2LEB worked 2 and 6 side band. KC2YYZ and N2ROW split duty on the G5RV. KC2LSB worked off his vertical mounted on his truck and I tackled PSK31.

In all we all had a great time and every one learned something. Next year will be better.
