2011 ARRL Field Day
We used Field Day as an opportunity to highlight the relationship between the American Red Cross and Amateur Radio. As the Louisville Area Chapter Amateur Radio Communications Liaison I elected to demonstrate the capabilities of a small, two person effort to set up and operate a fully functional HF/VHF/UHF (including RTTY) near one of the Service Centers. We used a 75M Double Bazooka, center at 25 feet on a push up pole and the ends at 10 feet on tripods. A recently reconditioned TS-430S performed very well for us. The call sign W4ARC is used by the Louisville Area Chapter to assist in communications throughout their thirteen (13) county area in Southern Indiana/Kentucky. Weather was great and next year we will rotate the setup to another location within the Louisville Area Chapter boundaries.
