2011 ARRL Field Day
Even though this years’ Field Day was the year of Murphy, we had our usual great time at our northern Michigan Field Day location. This year we had to operate without our best CW op, which greatly reduced our score. We had rain all day Friday and Saturday morning which added to the antenna erection problems already one man short. Then 10 minutes before start time one of the computers refused to come up on the network which cost us a half an hour or so to get the spare up and running. Then we found that the 3 ele. tri-band beam, that we painstakingly put up in the rain, was a dummy load at 30 feet. Not wanting to take the time to bring it down to troubleshoot the problem, we did without it. (Even after Field Day I still can’t find the problem.) Well I guess that is what Field Day is all about, working around adversity. Next year we should have all of our crew back and hopefully Murphy will take a break.
