2011 ARRL Field Day

07/18/2011 | N2SE

Field Day 2011 saw N2SE, The 10-70  Repeater Association of northern NJ, setting up for Field Day at the Cul de Sac at Camp Gaw in Mahwah, NJ. This year’s effort was a 2A station operating PSK-31, CW, and SSB. Operations were confined primarily to 40M & 20M.

The sages say that it is the journey that is important not necessarily the arrival … that being said, we initially did have our fair share of “situations” like our central “wooden” antenna support structure that decided it would rather be 25 feet tall instead of 35 feet tall, a set of coax connectors that one operator swore was in his go-kit (thank goodness for Radio Shack), a “Toughbook” laptop that “wimped” out suddenly ceasing to work 30 seconds into our first psk contact (thank goodness for backup laptops), etc. But the 10-70 Spirit emerged triumphant despite these setbacks. Our efforts to set up and operate were successful (even if not record shattering) and club members and visitors shared operating & set-up fun and the great camaraderie that is created when hams & friends get together in a shared adventure. Also on the plus side, the historically ever-present mosquitoes, never made their feared appearance this year. All in all, a fun time, with our thoughts now on Field Day 2012.
