2011 ARRL Field Day
2B San Joaquin Valley, CA
I operated again in the mountains of the Los Padres National Forest at an elevation of 6624' with the help of Chuck, WA6FGK. We worked 20, 40, and 75/80 meters, both phone and CW. Our 6 meter VHF station was located so it looked straight north over the San Joaquin Valley with the snow covered Sierra Nevada Mountains in the distance. The band opened up with QSOs to the Pacific Northwest and Midwest. We copied the ARRL FD Bulletin, got a NTS message to the Section Manager, and were visited by a Forest Ranger who got a briefing about amateur radio. As usual, it was fun going out into the woods and operating as a "Bravo" classification knowing that all the other 1B and 2B stations were out somewhere in the wilds like us enjoying nature and ham radio.
