2011 ARRL September VHF Contest
This was a casual contest for me this year. I had some great fun and some Big scares. FN12 I had a tornado issue along with some strong lightening that had me wet my pants. I think it also affected K2LIM as I did not hear them after the storms. More on the tornado on various contest news lists you may read. I had some great scheds with N3NGE, W2SZ, K1TEO and K3TUF. I failed to keep scheds with K3EOD this contest. I only gave them a short 15 minute window after N3NGE and K3TUF's short 15 minute window and I kept overrunning the 15 minutes. Lesson: Don't sched only 15 minutes if you have 9 bands, LOTS of power and a 6 foot microwave dish! Sorry to K3EOD. I also wish to thank but apologize to all those people that needed FN11. Apparently I was one of the only people in FN11 this time. K3YTL was not on. I tried to help many people but could not handle the load and still hold my scheds. I told stations like W2EA and W3SO (just name name a couple) that I would work them but never did. My biggest surprise was K1WHS (FN43) from my FN01xa that was approx 400 miles! I worked them on all 4 of the lower bands with my tri-band log periodic (12foot boom) and approx 100watts! K1WHS has great ears! I bet 903 and 1.2 would have worked if they had it.
I had 206 QSO's nearly got hit by lightening and saw a tornado. At $1.11 per QSO this was not really a great thing to do with my time and money. I will probably be back next year. One last comment, read the rules before you submit your logs! It helps us all see this as worth the effort.
