2011 ARRL September VHF Contest
I enjoyed this contest as the weather was decent and I was able to put in a decent amount of time in the portable category from a hill on Long Island in FN30. I had the misfortune to discover that I was missing one of the elements from my portable Six Meter Yagi about two hours before the contest. I tried to rig up a replacement element at the site but this did not load up right. So I ended up taking the one of the director elements and adding a screw at the end to make it into a driven element and this worked out very well that I made a decent amount of Six Meter contacts, including one into FN53 on CW. I made over 70 QSOs total and worked a few rover stations worked but nowhere the number of pack rover stations that some portable California stations get the benefit from, when they operate out in the west coast. There were some decent ground wave and modest tropo during the contest.
