2011 ARRL 10 Meter Contest
I operated SO SSB QRP from my portable location in Moss Point, MS just across the state line from Alabama. This QTH has a very low noise floor most of the time. I used my Icom 756 PRO II at 5 watts output and my portable Superantenna YP-3 three element yagi. Antenna rotation was accomplished by the tried and true Armstrong method.
Last year I finished 4th in this category in the US, but even though my score is better this year I'm sure many others will beat me. I'm generally pleased with my results, though. I lost many hours of operating time, but got some nice DX from Europe, South American, Caribbean, and even several Australians. A couple Pacific islands, too. The mults were definitely out there!
Last year, FL QSOs made up the bulk of my contacts and--you guessed it!--not a single FL QSO this year!! Did not get MS (last year I had 2) but I did get AL for my only 4 land QSO and my only local.
I managed some short runs which helped the score. Conditions seemed a lot better than last year, although this was the first year I ever operated this conteswt with an outdoor antenna (and a gain antenna at that) so I wonder how much the YP-3 helped my score?
Final Tally:
392 QSO points
53 Mults
Overall score: 20,776
73,
See ya in 2012!
