2011 ARRL 10 Meter Contest
I operated from a mountain top above the San Fernando Valley of Los Angeles using an FT-817 at 5 watts and a Buddipole. I hiked up late in the afternoon on Saturday so only had an hour and a half operating time before the light faded. But I still had fun working eleven stations on SSB and ten stations on CW with most in Japan, South American, and New Zealand. My QRP signals were fantastic! Everyone gave me either a "59" or "599." No kidding! NOT Many stations had to ask me to repeat information since I was so weak. I gave out honest RST signal reports; I wish everyone else would. It was beautiful watching the sun go down in west and a big orange moon rising over the mountains in the east. Walking down in the dark, I heard a pack of coyotes howling so close I thought they were right behind me. Until next year,
