2012 ARRL January VHF Sweepstakes
This January went MUCH MUCH better than last year. Then, I had *ONE* contact the entire contest. Looks like Cycle 24 is finally getting down to business. Finally.
Oddly for me, I had no antenna or feedline issues at all the entire weekend. One funny thing though - the VFO knob on my IC-551D seized up and stopped turning about an hour before the end of the contest, just as another mini-opening to the north was starting up. Spent a frantic half hour diassembling the radio and diddling with the shaft lock and lubricating the bearings. It *finally* broke loose and started turning again, but naturally by that time the band was totally shut down. Made one last contact right as the contest period was up.
Six meters was definitely the band of choice for me; I made almost no contacts on 2 or 432.
All in all, very pleased with how it went this time 'round. Even took the time to write a quick bash script to parse the cabrilo file and calculate the score.
