Greetings from the Stanford University Amateur Radio Club – W6YX!

I earned my Masters in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) this past June, and I headed out west to a great school with a thriving amateur radio club – Stanford University. Much to my surprise another Cambridge, MA contester, Clayton Nall (NF1R), also made a voyage out west to Stanford University to pursue a faculty position. It seemed little bits of the MIT and Harvard amateur radio clubs made it out to Stanford University! With Clayton and myself at Stanford, combined with the already present contesting-fever at Stanford, I knew this year’s Sweepstakes would be exciting! For the November CW Sweepstakes we had four operators: Mike Heideman (N7MH), Nick Ulman (KZ2V), Clayton Nall (NF1R) and me, Rebecca Rich (KB0VVT). Clayton and I got acquainted with the station the night before the contest during the hour-long practice contest, and we were all off to the races on Saturday. We tried to fill every second of the contest with contacts, running dueling CQ’s or alternating CQ-ing on the main station with searching and pouncing on the substations while using audio splitting to keep our accuracy in receiving exchanges as high as possible. At the end of the contest, we had achieved our sweep and 1385 QSOs! It was awesome to work with the Stanford crew during the 2011 ARRL November Sweepstakes CW Contest; I cannot wait to see what we can accomplish in the years to come!!

I recently reviewed the initial 2011 SS CW results and it appears that W6YX finished first in the school club category. I am more excited to report that it appears that we finished in the top 10 overall in the 2011 SS CW contest.

On a sad note, it only appears as though five stations entered the School Club category for the 2011 SS CW contest. I would like to see at least one School Club category entry for each of the 80 ARRL sections.

73, Rebecca
