Hello again from the Stanford University Amateur Radio Club – W6YX! It has been years since I have participated in the phone portion of Sweepstakes, but this year I decided to partake since I had so much fun during the CW Sweepstakes. Please see the W6YX 2011 CW Sweepstakes Soapbox.

For the Phone portion of Sweepstakes we again had the same four operators that teamed up during CW Sweepstakes: Our team leader and strategist Mike Heideman (N7MH), Nick Ulman (KZ2V), Stanford Assistant Professor Clayton Nall (NF1R) and me, Rebecca Rich (KB0VVT) Stanford PhD student.

I broke away from the contest action to attend a Stanford versus California football game. It was so exciting to attend a college football game especially when it was a great team quarterbacked by Andrew Luck.

As in the CW Sweepstakes, we tried to fill every second of the contest with contacts, running dueling CQ’s or alternating CQ-ing on the main station with searching and pouncing on the substations while using audio splitting to keep our accuracy in receiving exchanges as high as possible. 

It was such a fun weekend!
