2012 ARRL June VHF Contest

06/15/2012 | W4RYF Had a lot of Radio fun again this year. My QTH again this year was western North Carolina at the Jack-Haywood Overlook (mile post 431) on the Blue Ridge Parkway at 6020 ft elevation. As I pulled into the parking lot at 630Am Sunday morning the fog rolled in and it started to rain for the next 5 hours. I Set up my quad antenna on the trailer hitch of the car and operated from the backseat of the station wagon rather than from an out door table. My new quad antenna, “Scorpion 88”, is a nice antenna, seems like I had all of the gain I wanted, but the noise floor was quite high with all the rain and distant lightning. I made 45 contacts this year VHF/UHF with my ICOM 910. I may have done better if I could have changed the antenna azimuth more often.... out in the rain! Maybe I'll have a rotator next year.  ’73 Bob – W4RYF -- W4RYF
