2012 ARRL Field Day

06/25/2012 | K9OR

Once again the North Shore Radio Club (Chicago) held its Field Day at the Grove Cultural Center in Lake Forest, IL. We operated in the 3A class with a GOTA and a VHF station. Participation reached an all-time high this year. It was wonderful to have around 80+ members, guests and families help out in many ways, especially with set up and take down when they were needed most. We had three tents housing the two CW stations, the SSB station and the VHF station. The GOTA station was under a more permanent tent situated next to one of the buildings in the area. The many tall oak trees provided superb supports for the various dipole antennas and we also had a TA-33 Jr. on a 30 ft. tower for the SSB station. Each day was sunny and in the upper 80s. Some rain was predicted, but never materialized so the weather was perfect. This was the first year that we had three Elecraft K3s for SSB and CW stations. They were superb performers and our score should reflect a good effort so we can hardly wait to see how we did. On Saturday, just, before starting time, we were honored by a visit from our ARRL Director and Vice Director, W9GIG and W9XA. It was a great weekend and a superb time was had by all. This is our club's most popular annual event.
