2012 ARRL Field Day

06/26/2012 | W1BIM

We had a great Field-Day this year with more/better antennas and accomodations.  I set up my 50 foot AB-577 tower with a 3-element SteppIR for 20 through 6 meters.  We ran mostly 20m CW on it for the whole event with a short stint of 20m digital.  Great reception at our 1100 foot site and 50 foot tower.

I also set up a temporary tower for 2m and 70cm using the WRTCC-demonstrated "falling derrick" method of raising/lowering the tower.  This takes a while to set up on the ground but makes raising and lowering the tower a breeze; even for one person.  I used ribbed aluminum military poles for the tower and fiberglass ones for the derrick.  Very slick tower raising method - I highly recommend it for safety and ease of raising/lowering/adjusting things etc.
